5 Things to Know About Spider Vein Laser Treatments
Spider veins are a common occurrence, especially in older men and women. In addition to being unseemly they are often painful. Many report being sore and having some sharp pain. They can also increase your chances for a blood clot or open sores where you have spider veins. If you’re unfamiliar with what spider veins are and what causes them, they are simply damaged veins.
They become damaged when tiny one-way valves inside the veins weaken. The veins are supposed to only send blood back to your heart, but when these valves weaken some blood flows back away from the heart and builds up. This causes the spider veins.
If you are interested in treating these veins and are considering laser treatment, then there are five things that you need to know.
How does treatment work?
It may seem impossible for something like lasers to be used for something like vein treatments, but it works. The lasers target the veins and heat them up. The heat from the light causes the blood to coagulate and the veins to collapse.
These collapse veins are then detached from your vascular system and eventually they dissolve and fade away. The lasers are so precise that the surrounding skin and other tissue is not damaged during treatment.
What technology is used?
At LightRx we use the Venus Viva™ and Aeronase Neo Elite. The Venus Viva™ combines NanoFractional™ Radio Frequency (RF) and Pulsed Electro Magnetic Fields with SmartScan™ technology to safely deliver reparative heat to deeper layers of the skin without causing harm to any of the surrounding tissue. The RF tightens existing collagen fibers in the dermis while stimulating collagen production cells (fibroblast) to make new collagen for the skin.
What is great about the treatment is that it is noninvasive and surgery free. This means that you avoid both the risks of surgery and the downtime afterwards. Venus Viva™ treatment is done completely on the surface of the skin.
There are no incisions, meaning no risk of scarring, infection, or internal damage. In fact, one of the treatment targets is scarring. If you have facial scarring from a previous treatment, then Venus Viva™ can help you reduce it.
There are many benefits to using the Aerolase Neo Elite, but they can be summed up in four categories. The first is its unmatched efficacy. The deep penetration and high power of the laser allows for a wide range of treatment for skin conditions of all types on skin of all types.
The second is the Neo Elite’s range of unique beam profiles. Third, because of the unique nature of this technology, the Aerolase Neo Elite is versatile. Finally, since the Neo Elite delivers high amounts of energy within a short pulse time, a lot of the already minimal side effects are even less likely.
How long does treatment take?
Spider vein laser treatments take anywhere between thirty to ninety minutes depending on the size of the area being treated and the severity of the veins being treated. For best results you will need to undergo at least two and up to six treatments over the course of a few months.
Results will be apparent anywhere between two and six weeks after treatment sessions and full results will be apparent two to six weeks following your final session. There’s such a wide window because different bodies heal at different rates. The treatment is just a catalyst for your body’s natural healing process, so the faster it works the faster you will see results.
Is it safe?
The treatment method is very safe. It is a non-intrusive, surgery free treatment. This has a couple of key benefits. First, you avoid the typical risks associated with surgery. There is no risk of scarring, internal bleeding or damage, or infection with laser treatment for spider veins. There is also no downtime. You can be treated and immediately leave our LightRx location to return to your normal daily activities.
There are some possible side effects of spider vein laser treatment. There may be some redness of the skin in the treated area for up to eight hours following treatment. Some people describe a stinging pain, like a sunburn. There also may be some mild swelling in the treated area for a day or two following treatments. You should avoid applying makeup to the treated area and apply moisturizing lotion to the treated area during treatment and for three months following.
